Patrick Flaherty
Bio
Mr. Flaherty is Mechanical Engineer focused on bio-material development, applications, and processing. He is an expert in the applications of bio-materials and manufacturing systems utilizing bio-materials for composites, non-wovens, and compounded polymers. Early in his career, he helped to develop seminal bamboo fiber technologies at a start-up engineering firm. He then became a founding member of Sunstrand, where he continued to develop bio-material technologies. He departed the company last year as the VP of Product Development to pursue other industry interests and passion projects. He has a diverse technical background that includes residential construction, manufacturing, material testing, production engineering and analysis, product development, and emerging market development.
He has co-authored a book chapter on bast fiber processing as well as several conference and academic research papers and presents at natural fiber and composite related events.
Mr. Flaherty currently runs PFDesignLab where he helps clients develop new and innovative bio-materials and products. With his lab and manufacturing space, combined with years of specialized experience, he has an unmatched ability for product, application, processing, and manufacturing systems development for these materials. He has a degree in Mechanical Engineering with an emphasis on polymer composite manufacturing and testing.
